Back in December I treated myself to a cookery lesson. Oh no not a Jamie Oliver "how not to burn a pan" type lesson, I went for something a little more exciting. Sushi making!! The course was provided by Fyne Fish, the ladies at Fyne Fish can be found in Cockermouth, Cumbria. Luckily I didn't have to travel that far as the course was being held in the shadow of Blencathra just “down the road” (17miles is just down the road in Cumbria) in Keswick.

I'd already pre-warned them about my lack of cookery skills and what a tool I was with a knife and perhaps all sharp implements should be kept away from me in-case of accidental finger chopping.
The venue was Peter Sidwel's haunt and was just big enough to fit in a small group of six wannabe chefs swinging chop sticks. A cuppa tea, a biscuit (top notch biscuits too) and a smile greeted us. Four males and two ladies were ready to be taught a think or too, one of which came from Manchester for this one day course!!

We were actually quite a quiet bunch considering I'm actually quite loud and silly. Concentration was the word of the day, I'd been handed a knife! I'd concentrated so much throughout the day my head started to ache. Believe me it is NOT a none talking course, it's fun and informative and I wanted to get it right. Plus I have a short attention span, when it comes to clever things my brain can't cope, overloads, and ends up in silly mode.

Lunch was laid on and after eating so many scrag end sushi rolls I thought it was rude to refuse the delicious looking Fish Pie and garden peas that had been dished up in front of us, so I shook my hallow leg (doesn't everyone have one of these in-case of surprise puddings, or, is it just me?) and scoffed the pie.

The course was fantastic, I learnt a lot and forgot a lot too. But, the ladies had this covered, they gave us a booklet about all we had learnt through the course. We also took home goodies to start us at home too. All the sushi we created that day we took home. Boy if you are going on this particular course make sure you have a small family or friends coming round! My favourite was the egg pancakes, I could have stuffed them in my face all day.

I would recommend this course to anyone even those who burn water.
I managed it, only a small amount of food was on the floor, some found on my back though?! And, I didn't cut myself! Oh wait, that's a lie! I did cut myself, in the last two minutes of the course on the plastic tray.

Even if it is a one day course , it's a good excuse to book into a B&B on the Friday night and enjoy the weekend in the Lake District, it would be a shame not too.

    Halfpint adventures.

This is where you will find all the mini adventures I have been on, be it a holiday, a trip to a National Trust, English Heritage or a privately owned estate. Even this adventures I get up to. Occasionally I may write a review on a book I've read.
