"Ooo Look! Squirrel"
Lowther Castle and Gardens

Picture

Those who have been to Lowther Castle and Gardens will know that there is no hill to view the castle at that particular angle. What I have done is create a painting about all the things  we love about Lowther castle and gardens. I say almost all - there has to be another two paintings in there somewhere from me.  Herons breed in the castle grounds, red squirrels appear if you are quiet enough and a plethora of mushrooms appear in various places. The castle is a renovation in progress and at the time of drawing the painting the Parterre had just been created. The popular trees that flank this area are how I'd imagine it to be.

Lowther Castle and Gardens can be found here on their website. They now have a fantastic wooden castle for the children to play in. It is massive, big enough for the adults to play in too!

How I created the painting
Picture

Completed in August 2016 I didn't worked on it everyday or every month. I've done it when I've felt like it. If it was a commission I'd have had it down in a few month.

This was the first photo I'd taken of the painting. If you notice the castle hasn't even been drawn in yet.

I don't always work on the same side, or, do the entire plant, bush, or tree in one go. What I do is when I have mixed up the paint I try to complete that part of the painting that will require that colour, as I know I will probably not be able to replicate it like for like.
I use a mix of Gouache, Acrylic and Watercolour.
