 ART So you are an Artist or a lover of art if you come back to read just this article every week. Apologies for not feeding your habit last week we had a very busy week at the Brewery and I was too shattered to write a half decent blog. So this week I bring you a Gallery, Beckstones family owned Art Gallery. This Galley has been on my tick list ever since I moved to Cumbria in 2011 and finally a few weeks ago we visited this delightful little gallery. As you walk through the door the lights magically turn on and I'm not sure what delighted us the most the big paintings on the back wall or the amazing tiled shiny floor. The reputation for high quality original paintings by UK artists that are hand picked by the family since the 1970's is definitely a reputation any gallery would delight in. It's not hype, go and check it out next time you are in the area. Collectors queue over night when they hold new art / artist exhibitions. Some of the artists have been there for 25years! Not with the same painting honest! So I will give you a selection of a few of the artists featured starting with...
Tim Gustard a Still Life artist exhibiting with the Gallery since the 1990's and has had seven one-man shows at the gallery with plenty of people waiting from the night before to see his work. I mean can you blame them!!!??? Born in Louth, Lincolnshire and studied at the Stoke City art school and now lives in the wondrous Lake District. His Still Life paintings are apparently all down to his lady who one day presented him with some fruit and other objects to paint for her and since then he has kept on creating them.
Alan Thompson also lives close to the gallery which he started exhibiting at in his 20's (over 30 years exhibiting). A four time one man shower, Alan is a Lakeland Landscape artist, although in recent years he has started to paint scenes of Italy France and Spain.
Nick Goodwin born in Kings Lynn 1975 and his art is classed as Photorealism. Nick was one of the many artist we stood in front of for quite sometime just immersing and reminiscing in his painting with Dennis the Menace and his Marble. I thought they were going to role off the edge at one point! You can view more artists via Beckstones Gallery's website if you can not get to Cumbria. And here's their Twitter account. Put the 10th - 18th October 2015 in your Diary as an exhibition of Andrew Talbots work will be displayed. And just to tempt you this is one of his!! No it's not a photograph!   BEER The following beers are all sold at the award winning Five Star (visit england) Tebay Services on the M6 and at the Rheged Centre in Penrith Cumbria. In case you was wondering Tebay Blonde became the first bottle of beer to be commissioned for any motorway services in the UK back in 2013. So if you are passing Junction on your way to your holiday destination be sure to call into one of the best motorway services this country has .I say one of the best because they opened up one in Gloucester on the M5. And I'm not saying that because we (Eden Brewery) brew their beer, it is!!  Tebay Blonde Now this is one of the first brews (supervised) I did, so it's more than likely the bottle that maybe in your hand be one of my first brews. So savour it. The light Bananary, Butterscotch smell kinda reminds me of Angel Delight, but with a malty smell dancing at the back with out the sweetness Angel Delight gives. It had been in the back of my fridge for weeks so it poured very nicely into my glass. Now when I sip (glug) there is no banana taste more a light creamy peach and gooseberry tang to it. A very unique hop goes into this brew created by Charles Faram Tebay Gold Lovely Golden Copper colour pours into the glass with a wiff of Caramel. Now the taste, all I can say is if you love our Eden Gold and or Eden Best then you have to at least try this one! It's smooth and for me creamy on the tongue It has that Grape-fruity tang to it at first which then lends it's self to the slightly caramel honey. This is one to have with the BBQ and one you will enjoy long into the early hours. Tebay Best Another copper colour but more of a older copper look, that will be the Crystal which we added to the Maris Otter pale ale malt sending it that colour. Smells like a freshly Caramelised Toffee sweet. The Challenger hops add a hint of spice, with only a little bitterness in the Best. It is a nice starter for someone wanting to start on the darker side of ale route.  So as you pass the services or pop into Rheged for that awesome Mindcraft exhibition see if you can get 12 500ml bottle to share with your buddies. That warm hot BBQ weather is on it's way (I'm sure it is anyway). If those three beers weren't enough for you, this year we are brewing Tebay a Christmas / Winter warmer beer. Created by my boss and myself. Or rather my contribution was “I don't think we should have that much cloves in it” “Can we have Star Anise in it”?? Constantly till he gave in. And “Why them hops??? Can't we have something more exciting in it – like Willamette?” No was the response or rather silence and then the brew sheet handed to me. Willamette would have probably been too much for the creation anyway. I just like to throw things in and question the boss sometimes. It keeps him on his toes. However hopefully my suggestion of the name and the branding was liked. Here's the Tebay Blonde article from way back when.  GARDEN Some ripe pickings from our small garden this week. We attempted to grow Cauliflower last year (young plants bought from Larch Cottage Nurseries) and managed to grow 2 of them. Three were eaten by Snails and probably Slugs and another didn't bare any fruit. We were told it probably wont flower next year (2015) and to take it out. BUT, we decided to leave it and experiment. This year we bought more, planted (in too small of a patch) and waited. The Fennel and Spinach I didn't catch to eat (not eating enough Spinach or quick enough) so they grew and grew and in the end I had to dig them out. Turns out when its hot and wet they grow really fast. But this meant more space for the Cauliflower so I up rooted (sorry) the bigger one so the others could breathe and low and behold the one we left in the corner from 2014 had bared fruit!! Well we cut it up as soon as possible and had it over two nights with some Kick Ass Habanero cheese drizzled over it. Yummy!
