ART This week is a cycling theme. The Giro d' Italia and The Tour De France have been televised and once again I missed it. Recording them next time!! So let me introduce you to two artist who when Yorkshire (my home County) played host to the Grand Depart in 2014 drew a few paintings for exhibitions dotted around the County.  Firstly Alister Colley researched the event for months before his creation. This creation you could say helped him to win this years Best Selling Published Artist In the Art and Framing Awards. He has also been nominated several times for several other awards. Alister is a Yorkshire lad having grown up in Harrogate and studying in Leeds.  I also found Mike Smith he uses 'a ‘reduction’ process that employs up to ten different colour printing stages but only one printing block'. In other words the term It is also called 'the suicide cut'. Mike is always out with his sketch book and Camera as you never know when you see 'that' picture which inspires you to create a new print.
 BEER THORNBRIDGE Erocia Britannia Handsome Pale Ale 4.3% This beer was bought with my brother in mind as he likes his cycling. However he didn't visit when we arranged so I drunk it instead weeks later. Product testing was my excuse. The first sip straight from the bottle is almost a fruity Almondy taste. Then I read the back of the bottle. I have to say intention or purely my imagination and the power of suggestion this beer actually reminds me of the times as a youngster when we used to visit the Bakewell show and bring home the proper Bakewell tarts. The beer isn't sweet, not like those lovely tarts just a slight hint. I'm not the type of person who follows the crowd and says things are good when they are not. I am stubborn and awkward! I'm no Melissa Cole and you are probably no Michael Jackson (no, not the singer!), but, we can both agree that we know what floats our boat and what doesn't and why. This beer is balanced nicely with the malt and hops, it's refreshing and definitely a session ale. This Handsome beer I think would be great for someone who is new to drinking beer, and, someone who doesn't like a lot of hops. It is definitely a beer to sit and watch cyclist go by what ever the race. Why is there a cyclist on the bottle? I'll let Erocia Britain tell you. Have you tried any other Thornbridge beers? Which is your favourite and why? Please leave any comments below.  GARDEN My mum recently visited Claude Monets garden in Giverney Normandy, which is only the second time she has been aboard. My mum said it was like walking into one of his paintings. The garden is one of those gardens where you sit and listen to the breeze waft through the trees and the sun warms your face. But, before you know it you are lost in thought and the coach party are sat on the bus waiting for you (that didn't happen honestly). She didn't say much about the garden though, left her speechless as she is usually very talkative.
 There is the Japanese garden where the famous Water Lily painting was inspired, they float under the bridge, as you stand looking down remembering the game Pooh Sticks you just know if you throw the stick in, Monet would frown upon you. Here's his foundation website with more detail about the garden.  Yep I am in bike leathers! Safety first! MUSINGS I love to cycle – she says, the person who hasn't been on it for awhile. No I do, as a child I never had a bike, but I remember the first time I rode on a friends new bike – never been on one before. When I got back I'd been gone awhile and I had pretty much cycled down into the village, past the Comprehensive school I went to and then up to my old Primary school. It was probably five miles in total. Only went on it a few times after that. I got my first bike in my early 30's named the Banshee, not by me the company who made it! Actually bought it because of the name. At one point the T section on the handlebar was that loose when I went round a corner I could get my knee down. But I loved it, never changed the breaks and the tyres were original (slowly became slicks). Then 10 years later after nearly throwing it off a hill in a hissy fit (my first girlie hissy fit ever!) screaming 'Why doesn't my bike work? Why am I pedalling up this hill 20 to the dozen and sliding back down' Why do I still have to pedal going downhill to catch you up and you aren't even pedalling?!' My man as a Valentine present bought me a lighter bike, that actually moves in the mud. OK I still have to pedal like the wind to catch his racer up, but my tyres are Mountain Terrarain and not road, the way I see it when I eventually decided to use the correct tyres I'll be flying! I recently have mastered the art of not falling off the bike, just steering into things! My early starts at the Brewery the last few days have put me off getting back in the saddle, but, when I find the right moment and mindset to cycle to work (3mile) I will do it and keep doing it till I'm too tired that Friday to cycle. Plus getting soaked wet isn't my idea of fun before I start work in a cold building in the winter.  The Festival has the lot, Vintage cycles, a bike Jumble, a cycle ride (old bike required), Camping, Vintage Sports day, Family Fun, Food, Drink, Music, Laughter. I'm excited about it and I haven't even been!! Over 30,000 attended in 2014 which was the first year and no doubt this year they are still counting the figures. Think I shall have to have a chat with the brother and see if we can all go next year. I mean it is near my birthday! So whilst I was creating this blog and trying to tie the theme together I found these two blogs about the Erocia Britannia.
